The Growth You Can't See

The summer solstice has passed, marking the longest day of the year. Yet even at the height of the light, the season quietly begins to turn.

Here in Arizona, summer carries its own wisdom. The desert heat doesn't invite us into doing more. Instead, it asks us to slow down, seek shade, conserve our energy, and respect our limits. It reminds us that not every season is meant for relentless activity. Some seasons are meant for retreat, reflection, and simply tending to what matters most.

Life sometimes does the same thing. Sometimes the invitation to slow down arrives through circumstances we didn't choose. Sometimes we are asked to honor the limits of our bodies, our hearts, or our capacity in a given season. And while we often resist these slower seasons, perhaps they have something to teach us that busier seasons cannot.

As I sat down to write this month's newsletter, I realized that June had quietly slipped by without one. It is the first monthly newsletter I've missed in a very long time.

At first, I felt the need to hurry and send it. This newsletter is a commitment I take seriously and something that means a great deal to me, whether anyone reads it or not. Consistency matters to me, and I felt uncomfortable having missed a month. I wondered if I should simply push through, having it arrive during June's final days.

That did not happen and it arrives in July. Right on time.  Perhaps that too, has been part of the lesson.

I find myself wondering: Is anything actually taking root in these quieter seasons? When life becomes slower or more contained, it's easy to question whether anything meaningful is happening at all.

But, like any marinade or fermenting process, things become sweeter or "more ready" over time. When you interrupt the process too soon, you disturb its full potential.

When you feel that you are stagnant, or that you are falling behind, consider this perspective:

You are resting, integrating, and softening. You are allowing something to deepen.
